Security has top priority
Watertight, thorough but still fast
Our
100 percent baggage X-ray strategies are perfectly integrated into the material
flow. The initial inspection after check-in is fully automated. If there is any
doubt regarding the safety of a piece of luggage, its X-ray image is scrutinized
by specially trained personnel. This is followed by further automatic
inspections. If necessary, the piece of baggage in question is ejected from the
material flow and may be subject to visual inspection by authorized personnel in
the presence of the passenger.
In addition to the physical screening of all pieces of luggage, their
reconciliation with the passenger provides the second pillar of baggage security
at numerous airports worldwide. Available for many years now, the concept of Baggage
Reconciliation Systems is based on the perception that a terrorist will not
place a bomb in the aircraft that he intends to board himself. Thus, following a
globally accepted IATA recommendation, each bag loaded on an aircraft is to be
validated against the list of passengers who have already boarded the plane. If
a passenger has not boarded the plane, his luggage is to be offloaded
immediately for security reasons.
Manually checking the bag list against the passenger list is a very tedious and
time-consuming process. This is why we at Siemens support the implementation of
sophisticated BRS systems which are able to carry out the reconciliation and
even the offloading process within seconds.
Advanced features of our BRS system enable the acquisition of many additional
types of information and even comprehensive tracking and tracing of baggage.
These functionalities enhance the benefit of the system way beyond the original
straightforward reconciliation.
