SIMETAL Dynacs - the Siemens VAI’s state of the art secondary cooling model – dynamically controls the water flow rates in the spray cooling zones to assure a specified target temperature profile of the hot strand independent of current or passed casting conditions. This is achieved by solving the heat transfer equation continuously in real time considering actual production data, such as casting speed, actual water flows, steel analysis, tundish temperature and strand taper.

Many installed secondary cooling systems face the problem that they do not meet the requirements to produce the huge variety of high quality carbon or stainless steels. These old systems not only face unpredictable behaviour in transient casting conditions, but poor determination of the solidification area may even result in machine wear or damage.
SIMETAL Dynacs assures a constant desired temperature profile along the strand and thus avoids temperature dependent surface cracks. SIMETAL Dynacs has already been installed on more than 150 casters and has proven to cover the quality standards for a variety of carbon and stainless steels.
