The SIMETAL LevCon combines state-of-the-art mold level control with additional features that reduce clogging effects, SEN wear and mold level fluctuations initiated from bulging effects. Over 100 successful installations worldwide contributed to an ever increasing functionality and quality of this technological control system.

The challenge
Mold level fluctuations and surface waves cause major casting disturbances and may result in quality issues. Production and surface quality are adversely influenced by bulging effects especially for critical steelgrades (e.g. peritectics). Manual startup procedures require manpower in a dangerous environment.
Our solution
Advanced model-based control algorithms that even peek into the near future to avoid oscillations in the control loop. Active bulging suppression by means of a patented algorithm that is based on withdrawal forces. Automatic start / stop as well as automatic control during all casting conditions assure that production personnel can be assigned to quality related control tasks.
- Automatic adaptation to changes in width, casting speed and steel grade
- Backlash compensation for installation in existing environments
- Built-in clogging prevention by induced jitter and knocking
- Dead time compensation using a Smith Predictor for ‘just-in-time’ reactions
