SIMETAL BF VAiron automation and optimization package consists of a series of standardized process models which are grouped into mass and heat balance models, special models and kinetic models. A closed-loop expert system enables fully automatic control of key operational parameters. The process information management system collects, prepares and stores all relevant data for subsequent use.
Siemens VAI blast furnace
Permanently increasing cost pressure in the iron and steel industry means that cost-optimized operation and highest production quality along the entire process route are the key factors for competitive and profitable production. These factors are influenced by: • Raw Material Selection • Hot Metal Quality • Productivity • Reductant (= Fuel) Consumption Improvements in one area generally cause less favorable results in other areas. Also, overall operational objectives, market conditions, existing blast furnace equipment as well as operational know-how additionally play an important role in defining the production strategy. To be able to operate the blast furnace with such conflicting goals, the application of an optimized automation system is mandatory. Thus, the maximum potential for cost savings in blast furnace operation can be achieved.
The solution package for automated blast furnace operation has been developed by Siemens VAI in Austria and Finland and has been named VAiron. The system is now in operation at about 100 blast furnaces worldwide with excellent results. SIMETAL BF VAiron is based on advanced process models, artificial intelligence with phenomenon recognition, operator guidance, closed-loop Expert System and neural networks and other advanced software applications. Comprised of modulary structured and expandable process models and expert systems, the Process Optimization packages can be quickly installed in new or existing ironmaking plants. Online datalinks enable im mediate support for faster plant start-ups, technical assistance, system troubleshooting and software upgrades.
