PLANICIM® Shapemeter Roll
Strip flatness counts among the most important quality features of cold and hot rolled strip. Its performance is crucial for the downstream processing strips and the final products. A good flatness therefore secures the economical production. For an efficient flatness control in rolling plants, an accurate and reliable measurement is the basis. Manufactured, tested and assembled in the Siemens VAI workshop in France, the Planicim® shapemeter roll has proven its robustness in many installations in all type of cold rolling mills worldwide, starting to be implemented in aluminium and steel hot rolling mills.
Measurement Principle:
- Under pressure, the sleeve deflects in each sensing area
- Sleeve deformation is proportional to the strip tension (Tl) and to the sleeve characteristics
- Sleeve deformation is converted into an electrical information by a position transducer
- Stress distribution measurement by using up to 80 sensing areas across the strip width
- Per roll revolution, on-load and no-load readings are done to remove dynamic and thermal potential drifts
- Improved strip head and tail end flatness: the measure is available as soon as the strip is under tension
- Externally cooled for hot rolling applications
