Through phase control, the cycloconverter
transforms the line-side AC system with constant
frequency and voltage into a system with
variable frequency and voltage. The cycloconverter
features outstanding efficiency while providing
sinusoidal output currents across the entire
working range and the rapid and flexible setting
of frequency and current. This makes the
cycloconverter still a good choice for all types
of drives that must provide low-harmonics torque.
With a maximum output frequency of approximately
45% of its input frequency, the cycloconverter
is suitable for all slow-rotation variable speed
drives. The cycloconverter is modular in design
and best suited to high output. Air cooling makes
the converter independent of water supply,
deionization, and associated equipment – without
sacrificing a high overload capability.
The innovative cycloconverter system is called
SINAMICS SL150 and has the same control platform
and interface as the other SINAMICS converters.
For modernization of existing cycloconverters the
SL150 systems offers suitable revamp kits (power
section with the thyristors can be kept).
