Increased excavation quality with maximum availability: power shovel in use at Athabasca Tar Sands, Canada
In 2002, Siemens equipped the shovel excavators at the Athabasca Tar Sands mine with three-phase IGBT drives and data acquisition systems as a part of a SIMINE SH package. Since then, average availability of the machinery has been 98%. The integrated data acquisition system includes diagnostic tools, real-time monitoring of the machines and a payload system for blending. A crucial advantage is the ability to detect and control the quality of the excavated material.
